"Shore Leave at New Haven"
is the first in what we hope will be many adventures hosted by the Greenville Browncoats and Twisted Mind Productions.
The Setting for the BDL is a rustic little town called New Haven. It's on one of the unmentioned border worlds in the Verse - it's a bit rustic but pretty and the towns people are very friendly to space travelin' folk.
It's a thriving little town - there's a general store (Miss Mandy's Merchantile) , a restaurant (Eatz), a courthouse (the back porch of Eatz) with a crochety old judge sittin' in his favorite chair looking out at the lake.
and there's even a bar and bordello known as Red Annie's where folks can go for a cool drink, the latest gossip, a good song and a kind word (Remember though...what happens at Red Annie's stays at Red Annie's! No one under the age of 18 will be permitted inside Red Annie's without a parent or guardian)
In the real world "New Haven" is known as Camp Buckhorn and is located
in Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville South Carolina.

Since it is a scout camp you will need to bring your own bedding and towels! Remember to pack extra blankets because even in April the upstate can turn chilly
at night!
$150 - On-site cabin space From Friday at 7pm until Sunday at 11:00 am. Live the game from the time you arrive until you check out and head home. Space is limited. Get your reservations in. It's first come first serve.
$100- Offsite - Play during the day, sing, dance, enjoy the food and then go home to your own comfy bed and a nice hot shower.

The Festival of Lanterns takes place at the end of the Chinese New Year Celebration, on the fifteenth day of the first moon (our timing is a bit off but New Haven kind of marches to its own drummer. Lanterns have been part of Chinese life for centuries so it's not surprising to see a festival of lanterns.

People usually hang lanterns in the gardens, outside the houses and on the boats. These lanterns are signposts to guide guests and spirits of ancestors to the Lunar celebration. After a sumptuous fifteen-day feast, these lanterns light the way for the spirits back to the world beyond.
Silk, paper and plastic lanterns vary in shape and size and are usually multi-colored. Some are in the shapes of butterflies, birds, flowers, and boats. Others are shaped like dragon, fruit and animal symbols of that year. The most popular type of lantern is the "horse-racing" one, in which figures or animals rotate around the vertical axis of the lantern.
The special food for the Lantern Festival is Yuen Sin or Tong Yuen. These are round dumplings made with sticky rice flour. They can be filled and served as a sweet snack or made plain and cooked in a soup with vegetables, meat and dried shrimp. The round shape of the dumpling is a symbol of wholeness, completeness and unity.
The Lantern Festival is an occasion for families to get together and for everyone--young, old, rich and poor to have fun
